My work currently consists of exploring the variations of fungi and their connection with every organism living on the earth this is explored through mycelium and fungi pathways. I continue to explore this through variations of texture, form, shape, and colour. Through this process, I have broadened my understanding of fungi in the sense of learning the biology behind how these small fungi are created through the Earth’s resources and how this affects human and animal relationships. As a result of this, I have a greater understanding of an often-overlooked area of nature, as fungi are often missed through close observation. As a result of my closer observation of nature, I feel that I am closer in this sense to nature, observing seasons, weather, and changes in wind affecting the woodlands which I am closely connected to. Also, another major influence in my work explores the influence of music through its vibration and interpretations of nature flowing into my work.
About my practice, I have explored using a variety of media, clay, acrylic paint, printing, mixed media. However, presently I have found a love for using ink as my muse to create my current works, tailored to my exploration of fungi. Through using ink, I can manipulate colour, texture, tone throughout each piece with brushes and a nibbed pen. Creating outline and mark-making as the main feature within my work. I relish opportunities within workshops to create new works which may differ from my original practice, this helps to see variations of work in a new light and a new process that I may be unfamiliar with at first. I also endeavor to take my photographs which I work from within my practice, this keen interest helps me to understand my environment and the development of my work.
